Air ambulance called to Sutton Coldfield after ‘horror crash’ between car and lorry

AN air ambulance has been called to Sutton Coldfield after a ‘horror crash’ between a car and a lorry.

The incident took place at around 4.43pm today (Monday June 22) in Thimble End Road in Walmley between a Ford Focus and a HGV lorry.

The car had gone underneath the lorry and the HGV driver needed to be cut out.

The road has been closed . Police, West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service are all at the scene.

The male car driver has been taken to Heartlands and the lorry driver is expected to be airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The conditions are not yet known.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance with a doctor are at the scene of the collision.

West Midlands Police Force Contact said: “Police, Ambulance and and Fire currently responding to a serious collision on Thimble End Road, Walmley . Please avoid if you can.”

West Midlands Fire Service said: “Crews have released the driver of the horror crash using specialist equipment .

Great work to quickly extricate the injured and get them to hospital.”
