Visakhapatnam: In a significant move aimed at improving ease of registering vehicles, the AP transport department will be launching an online citizen service beginning from Vizag RTA (Road Transport Authority) limits on March 1.The online citizen services from the department will be extended to other parts of the state in a phased manner, according AP transport commissioner N Balasubrahmanyam.Addressing mediapersons during his visit to the city on Sunday, he said that with the introduction of the new system, people purchasing motor vehicles will not have to visit the Road Transport Authority offices for registering their vehicles. Instead, the facility would be available at the vehicle showrooms itself, where customers will have to submit their identity proof documents such as Aadhaar card, driving license and PAN card for commercial vehicles, he said.The automobile showrooms would upload the documents obtained from the customers and also submit the vehicle details to the RTA office. Balasubrahmanyam said that all the 55 automobile dealers in Vizag city limits have already been trained on the new system and have been given dealer login IDs for commencing operations from March 1.Balasubrahmanyam also said that a PDF copy of the vehicle’s registration certificate would be sent to the owner immediately, and even if it is lost, customers can download it instead of having to visit the RTA office.
