A mother and son were nearly mowed down by a rubbish truck as they crossed a busy street in the Sydney[2] CBD.

The pair hurried to the intersection of King and Sussex Streets at 4.24pm on Saturday and began to cross King Street at a jog.

Meanwhile the truck hurtled down an off ramp from the Western Distributor, preparing to turn left on to Sussex Street on a green arrow.

The mother and son hurriedly begin to cross busy King Street in the Sydney CBD on Saturday

It was not clear whether the pedestrian light was red, green, or flashing as green arrows and pedestrian green lights sometimes share right of way.

A jogger crossed the intersection slightly before them but was well across the road before the truck made it to the line.

The truck saw the pair as it rounded the bend and braked heavily, stopping less than a metre from the visibly cowering mother and child.

The instant the mother and son realise, to their horror, that the truck is baring down on them

Dashcam footage showed them stop crossing an instant before the truck would have hit them, looking up in horror as it bared down on them.

The pedestrians would almost certainly have been killed or seriously injured if the truckie had not been able to stop in time.

The pair retreated from the intersection and the truck carried on around the corner once it was clear.
