KINGSTON, Jamaica –The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) is pleading with the Government to fast track the new Road Traffic Act to aid in reducing the number of fatalities on the roads. The plea was accompanied by a call by the transport group for public transport operators to conclude 2017 putting safety first on the nation’s roads.

It said: “We want to finish the year the way we started it with an objective to have a 25 per cent reduction in deaths and crashes. While we miss the target by seven per cent, with 48 hours to go before the end of the year, we could miss the full target if we don’t take it easy on the roads.” It explained that over the course of 48 hours three people have been killed including two motorcyclists.

“We want to commend the work of the state agencies including the police, Road Safety Unit/ Council and while we call for a revamping of both groups (RSU/RSC) we want to put on record the work they have done in reducing fatal accidents,” the release ended.
