Transport Minister urges caution this Christmas as road fatalities increase

Transport Minister Mike Henry is again appealing to motorists to assist in keeping road fatalities this year under 325. His call comes after the previous goal of 300 was missed. The Transport Minister in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, said road fatalities for December have surpassed the 16 that were recorded last year in the corresponding period.

He added that while the overall figure is still lower than the figures recorded last year, any figure over 300 is still unacceptable.

The minister has also condemned what he calls the aggressive and dangerous behaviour of some motorists, particularly the drivers of some coaster buses and route taxis in rural townships and the corporate area.

He is calling for the police and the Island Traffic Authority to intensify their enforcement activities during the holiday season.
