Iran, Afghanistan sign road transport contract

A road transport contract was signed in a ceremony attended by Iran’s deputy minister of roads and urban development and his Afghan counterpart on Monday, said managing director of Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization.

Thousands of trucks cross the Iran-Afghanistan border, noted Davoud Keshavarzian, adding that transportation authorities of the two countries examined ways to facilitate the crossings of the trucks, IRNA reported. He said that a part of the toll was cut to reduce transit costs.

Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Transportation and Aviation Jarallah Mansouri said that Iran is a big neighbor of Afghanistan and called for the use of Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran.

Afghanistan and Central Asia countries can use the port to import from and export goods to China, he said.
