Transport Minister to close debate on Road Traffic Bill today

Transport Minister Mike Henry will close the debate on the Road Traffic Bill when the House of Representatives convenes Tuesday afternoon. The Bill, which was tabled on September 9, 2016, has 101 amendments. It has received bipartisan support.

The legislation will replace the Road Traffic Act of 1938. Among the provisions in the new Bill is the authority that will be given to the Island Traffic Authority to revoke driver’s licences. Under the old Road Traffic Act, revocation was a court decision.

The Transport Ministry is putting the final touches to an islandwide Public Education Campaign that will accompany the New Road Traffic Act.
