The teenager had reportedly been part of a group of homeless children who had approached the delivery truck drivers for cash-in-hand work.

Fumanekile Gxasheka, 51, said he and his colleague had turned the boy away ‘but he decided to stick around and watched us working.’

The trolley, loaded with KFC spices, flour and frozen chicken, was about to be lowered to the ground when the safety breaks failed, Mr Gxasheka told DispatchLive[4].

Witnesses heard Mr Gxasheka and his colleague shout at the boy to get out of the way, but that it was too late.
