A 42-year-old man was killed in a crash between a truck carrying chickens and two other cars north of Adelaide[2] on Wednesday.

The crash, believed to have been a head on collision, occurred about 6am on the Augusta Highway in Port Wakefield.

One man, who was driving a blue Mitsubishi sedan at the time, died at the scene, while five others involved survived the crash.

The 43-year-old man, who had been behind the wheel of the truck, was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

The man, 42, died at the scene while the truck driver remains in hospital in a serious condition

A spokeswoman for the hospital told Daily Mail Australia the man was in a ‘serious but stable condition’.

All four occupants of a silver Tarago were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pictures shared to social media show the truck appeared to burn after overturning on the side of the road following the crash.

Huge flames could be seen engulfing the truck and its contents, as thick black smoke poured out of the vehicle.

There were 3,000 chickens in the truck, 7 News[3] reported, and all perished in the flames.

Major Crash Investigators are at the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

South Australia’s road toll is now 15, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
