Commuters travelling on the M1 are facing peak-hour traffic chaos after a truck caught fire on the motorway.

There are major delays after the truck caught ablaze northbound at Mooney Mooney on the NSW Central Coast.

Two lanes have now been reopened on the M1 Pacific Motorway just past Hawkesbury River Bridge.

Emergency services are attending the scene and traffic is queued back 6km.
