Road Transport Authority staff’s ‘special’ protest irks visitors in Vijayawada

RTA employees staging a protest demanding special category status for AP at RTA office in Vijayawada on Tuesday | Express VIJAYAWADA: People who visited Road Transport Authority (RTA) office in Vijayawada on Tuesday seeking licences and other services were surprised after finding empty chairs in the office.
There were no staff in their respective seats. The reason for the mass absence: They were protesting outside seeking special category status to Andhra Pradesh!

Many employees backed by the Joint Action Committee-West Krishna took part in the demonstration demanding that the Centre accord special category status (SCS) to the State and fulfil the other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act-2014. The demonstration lasted for more than one-and-a-half hours and public who visited the RTA office expressed their dissatisfaction for not giving prior information about the disruption of services.
“Of course, we too support the employees’ protest for achieving SCS. However, they should have informed us earlier,” said V Radhika, a home maker. “At any cost, the Union government should fulfil all the promises made to the State.

We will support the State government in its fight till the end,” said M Raja Babu, a member of the Joint Action Committee.
