A group of thieves have stolen around 10 trucks fresh off the assembly line from a Michigan factory.

Warren Police were called to the Fiat Chrysler Warren Truck Assembly Plant before dawn on Thursday, after a security guard spotted the 2018 Ram trucks crashing through the factory’s gate.

The well-prepared thieves reportedly arrived at the plant in a 2003 Ram that was stolen from a Warren home. They cut through the chain link fence and once inside the factory unloaded as many as a dozen drivers who ran to the new trucks and drove away.

The truck the thieves arrived in was left abandoned by the fence, as reported by the Detroit Free Press[2].

Police said they are looking at security footage of the roads leading away from the factory as they continue to search for the thieves.

They added that it’s possible someone with inside information such as a former employee is involved in the heist.

The car company has not said definitively how many trucks were stolen but each is worth more than £30,000. They hadn’t been titled yet which will make the search more difficult.

They’ve also declined to say if keys were inside the vehicles when taken.

Authorities have expressed frustration after the crime, claiming Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has not been cooperative in the investigation.

Commissioner Bill Dwyer told the Detroit Free Press[3] on Friday: ‘We have absolutely nothing.

Why aren’t they calling me? We can’t do an investigation if they’re not working with us. We don’t even know if it’s nine or 11 vehicles stolen.

Or what colors.

Or the VIN numbers.’

Dyer said he’s offering more than £1,000 for information leading to the suspects and the recovery of the trucks.

There are currently no leads in the case.

A spokesman with the car company said on Friday: ‘FCA US is working with the Warren Police Department regarding the theft of several Ram Trucks …

The Company will be assessing security measures at the location and implementing any necessary changes to prevent future incidents.’
