A truck driver was allegedly watching a football game behind the wheel when he struck and killed a motorcyclist, police have said.

Pennsylvania state police said Kevin Souriyavong, 34, was charged Monday with felony homicide by vehicle and other offenses in connection with the death of 56-year-old John Baum.

Court records show Souriyavong was watching a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs on October 16, 2017, when his truck hit the back of Baum’s motorcycle on Interstate 81 near Carlisle.

Court records show Souriyavong was watching a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs on October 16, 2017, when his truck hit the back of Baum’s motorcycle on Interstate 81 near Carlisle.

The crash happened around 3am as Baum, who loved to take family members for rides on his motorcycle, was taking his sister home from her birthday dinner.

Baum, who had overcome liver cancer and a liver transplant, died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

His sister, Lori Radnor, landed on her chin and suffered a neck injury, and broken bones in her foot, pelvis and ribs, according to PennLive.com[2].

She is still recovering from her injuries.

Records show Souriyavong told police he was distracted at the time of the crash, but he blamed it on construction instead of the NFL game.

Authorities said they recovered Souriyavong’s cell phone and found texts about betting on football games on October 15.

According to court records, Souriyavong ‘had a vested interested in the outcome of the game’ and bet £50 on a ‘four-team parlay’ involving the Dolphins, Browns, Steelers and Chargers.

Video Souriyavong’s truck showed that his truck ran into the rear of the motorcycle directly in front of him ‘for no reason’, according to PennLive.com.

Souriyavong, a married father-of-three, told police he was not speeding because he had his truck on cruise control.

Police charged Souriyavong Monday and he was released on £10,000 unsecured bail.

He faces charges of following too closely, texting while driving, using an image-display device while driving, careless driving and reckless driving.
