A8 'Scotland's most dangerous road'
THE main road into Inverclyde has been named top of an accident blacklist for FIVE years running. Figures revealed at the Scottish Parliament show more people have been injured in crashes on the A8, pictured, every year since 2002 than on any other Scottish road. There have been more than 300 accidents resulting in injuries to drivers or passengers in four of the last five years.
Jackson Carlaw, a Conservative list MSP for the West of Scotland, said: ‘In 2006, there were 301 accidents on the A8 resulting in injury – the highest figure in Scotland.’ The MSP described the figures as “tragic” after they were revealed in the Scottish Parliament.
He said: ‘I shall be tabling further parliamentary questions to establish what strategy the Scottish Government has to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities on our roads – both by upgrading our roads and by ensuring more responsible driving by road users.’ But a spokeswoman for Transport Scotland said: ‘Scotland”s roads are among the safest in the world.
Current Government targets for accident reduction have been effectively achieved for the trunk road network.’[feedzy-rss feeds="https://shopmatrix.net/tag/saverdeal/feed/" max="4" feed_title="no" refresh="3_hours" sort="date_desc" multiple_meta="no" target="_self" follow="yes" title="80" meta="no" summary="yes" summarylength="150" thumb="yes" size="80" http="force" lazy="yes" price="yes"]
