Man dies after van collides with big truck on US 301

CITRA — A man was killed when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer, ejecting him on Wednesday afternoon.

The fatality was the second for the week, following the death of a 14-year-old boy on Monday.

Load Error Wednesday’s traffic death occurred in the county. The teen’s death was investigated by city police.

Witnesses told Florida Highway Patrol troopers that the big rig, driven by a 26-year-old Bartow man, was traveling southbound on U.S.

The victim was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he died at 1:38 p.m. troopers said. The man was 84, and from Citra, authorities said.

Troopers said the crash occurred at 1 p.m. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured, officials said. No one has been arrested or ticketed, and FHP officials are continuing their investigation.
