Officer hurt during traffic stop when police car rear-ended by transport truck

RCMP are investigating a collision Wednesday in which a transport truck rear-ended a police car that had pulled over another vehicle in Cumberland County. The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Highway 104 in Sutherland Lake The officer had just sat back in their car when the crash happened, Cpl.

Lisa Croteau said. The vehicle that had been pulled over was not hit. The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution before being released.

One of the westbound lanes on the highway was shut down in that area for most of the afternoon while a collision reconstructionist worked at the scene. The investigation into what caused the collisions is still underway. Croteau said no charges had been laid or tickets issued as of Thursday afternoon.

Motorists are required by law to slow down and move over when it is safe to do so when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the road.

Croteau said whether that happened is part of the investigation.
