Transport Canada Responsible for Ferry Rate Increase Repeal
The repeal of the ferry rate increases on the Gulf happened because of a request from Transport Canada. Marine Atlantic brought in a round of increases in passenger and commercial fares and “drop trailer” fees last Thursday but Transport Canada asked all of the transportation Crown corporations not to implement any increases this year. Company spokesperson Darrell Mercer says Marine Atlantic has a target to recover 65 per cent of its expenses on the Port aux Basques and Argentia routes.
COVID-19 had a serious impact on passenger volume and revenue.
Mercer says they have been working with the Government of Canada over the past year recognizing that COVID-19 had had a serious impact on their ability to generate revenue.
He’s hopeful that they will come close to reaching their target by the end of the year.[feedzy-rss feeds="https://shopmatrix.net/tag/saverdeal/feed/" max="4" feed_title="no" refresh="3_hours" sort="date_desc" multiple_meta="no" target="_self" follow="yes" title="80" meta="no" summary="yes" summarylength="150" thumb="yes" size="80" http="force" lazy="yes" price="yes"]
