Air ambulance scrambled to rush man to Glasgow hospital after M74 crash
Police and emergency services were called to the scene on the M74 southbound near Junction 11 (Happendon Interchange), around 20 miles or so to the south east of Glasgow by Lesmahagow after the alarm was raised around 1:30pm this afternoon.
The crash forced the closure of the motorway for around four hours to allow both vehicles to be removed, leading to traffic chaos in the area.
The motorway has since reopened fully in both directions.
Police have confirmed that enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were called around 1.30pm on Monday, 7 June, following reports of a two vehicle crash, involving a van and lorry, on the M74 southbound, near junction 11.
“Emergency services attended, and a 35-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance with what appeared to be serious injuries.
“The road was closed for around four hours to allow the vehicles to be removed and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.”
