BREAKING: Traffic chaos after multiple incidents on region’s motorways

The M62[1] was closed in both directions near Warrington[2] this evening after fears over a man on a bridge.

Police were called to a concern for the man’s safety shortly before 5pm.

Both the eastbound and westbound carriageways were closed near to junction 9 for Warrington and Winwick.

It was safety resolved around an hour and a half later with the man now being supported by police.

A Cheshire Police chief has thanked officers, negotiators and members of the public for saving his life.

Diversions were put in place with queues stretching back to junction 8.

There were also queues leaving Winwick and Warrington.

The road re-opened around 6:30pm

However, drivers have been warned it may take some time for congestion to clear.

It was one of number of incidents causing delays on the region’s motorways this evening.

Police said there had also been crashes between junctions 6 and 5 and clockwise at junction 18 Simister Island of the M60.

Whilst there there are also significant delays on the M56 after a major crash with traffic being held westbound between junction 14 for Runcorn and junction 12 for Chester Zoo.
