Incredible photo shows A14 covered in tomato puree after lorry crash

An incredible picture shared by Cambridgeshire police officers shows the aftermath of a lorry crash that brought traffic throughout the county to a standstill today (Wednesday, June 2).

The crash between two lorries near the Offord junction on the A14[1] heading westbound has caused huge delays[2] today as the road needed emergency repairs.

Part of the clear-up operation involved removing the litres of tomato puree carried by one of the lorries. In the picture shared by BTP Police, a huge red stain covers most of the road.

We’re covering this incident live in our traffic blog[3] which has further updates and diversion information.

Police said that one of the drivers was injured in the crash but not seriously. An investigation into the crash is also ongoing.

The incident meant that a big stretch of the A14 westbound was closed between Brampton Hut and the M11[4] junction, but traffic stretched all the way back to the Milton interchange.

Other local roads were disrupted with delays reported on the M11 and A1 due to the additional traffic and queues.

Highways England completed the repair works at around 1.25pm on Wednesday, around 20 hours after the road was first closed. The road has been reopened but there will likely still be some residual delays.
