Joe Biden Secret Service staff camp out in motorhomes at Newquay

US President Joe Biden’s security staff have been spotted camped out in dozens of luxury motorhomes near the airport where he will land for the G7 summit.

Ahead of his arrival[1] at Cornwall Airport Newquay[2] later today (June 9), the US President’s escort aircraft have been seen practicing the route to Carbis Bay[3], and many of his security team already arrived in the county.

With hotels almost entirely booked out in a 30-mile radius of the summit, MailOnline reports that 400 members of the US Secret Service, as well as other staff, have hired huge motorhomes to stay in.

More than 50 of the huge caravans have been spotted camped out by the airport, at RAF St Mawgan.

As Cornwall Live reports,[4] photos of the beasts show them cast in front of a large military plane, awaiting the arrival of the president himself.

The camper vans can reportedly sleep up to eight people, with satellite TV, and the biggest are the size of a lorry.

These staffers will be driven to Tregunna Hotel in Carbis Bay, where Biden and his entourage are staying during the G7 Summit[5] this weekend.

As well as the RVs, osprey helicopters were spotted over St Michael’s Mount yesterday (June 8), as well as the president’s own chopper.

Shipped over the water to RNAS Culdrose at Helston[6], these aircraft will also be deployed by the US government’s G7 staff to protect and ship around Biden.

For UK-based security, more than 5,000 additional police officers have been drafted in to help Devon and Cornwall Police[7] keep the event safe.

Diving, armed and canine units are all being used – with some being hosted on a cruise liner – read more about that and see photos here[8] – to help ease the strain on local hotels and B&Bs.

G7, hosted at Carbis Bay Hotel, will see leaders from the global north’s leading economies including the UK, US, France and Germany discuss various important issues.

While the exact discussions will be secretive, it’s known that climate change, the global vaccination effort, and a global corporation tax are all on the table.

Prime Minster Boris Johnson has also been photographed landing in Cornwall today.

A post on the Prime Minister’s Twitter account showed him stepping out of a jet giving a thumbs-up sign and holding a briefcase.

Top of this year’s agenda is expected to be how the world can overcome and recover from coronavirus.

Mr Johnson pledged to build back ‘better, fairer and greener’ following the devastating pandemic.
