Live: Serious crash shuts M25 with 16 miles of standstill traffic

All traffic is being held on the M25 near Hertfordshire following a serious crash.

A vehicle has reportedly crossed the central reservation near to junction 26[1] for Waltham Abbey, Essex, and the road has been closed in both directions.

Queues are now stationary and there are more than 16 miles of stationary traffic, with queues back as far as junction 24 for Potters Bar heading clockwise and past junction 27 for the M11 heading anticlockwise.

Traffic cameras at the scene show multiple fire crews and police vechiles in attendance dealing with the affected vehicle.

The road has been closed from the M11 interchange to junction 25 (Enfield) for diversion purposes.
