Live updates as M1 closed in Leicestershire due to fire

Traffic held twice by emergency services

According to the live traffic website Inrix, traffic on the M1 Southbound was held twice. Once at the beginning of the incident and again at 1.10pm, where restrictions were in place for ten minutes.

The website also says all three lanes have now reopened, but we will check with Highways England to make sure.

Inrix currently estimate a 15 minute travel time between the two junctions.

The update read: “Queueing traffic due to earlier lorry fire on M1 Southbound between J22 A50 ( Coalville / Ashby-de-la-zouch ) and J21A A46 (Leicester North / Kirby Muxloe ). Travel time is 15 minutes.

“All lanes have been re-opened. At 13:10 all traffic was held for a second time. All restrictions were lifted less than 10 minutes later. The camera showed no obvious signs of fire to the lorry, which is still situated on the hard shoulder.”
