Man dies after horror van and motorbike crash near Elgin as road locked down

A MAN has died after a horror road crash involving a van and a motorbike near Elgin.

The fatal collision, between a white Transit van and a white Suzuki motorbike, happened on the A941 at Fogwatt near Elgin, Moray, around 7am this morning.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and rushed a man, 44, to Dr Gray’s Hospital but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road is still closed between Oat Burnie Road and Thornhill Road, with a full collision investigation ongoing.

Inspector Lorraine Mackie, of Police Scotland’s North East Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of the man who has died as a result of this road crash.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and I am appealing to members of the public for their assistance with our investigation.

“I would ask if you were in the area at the time of the crash and may have witnessed this that you come forward and speak to officers. 

“If there are any motorists with possible dashcam footage of the area at the time of the incident, please speak to police.”

Earlier, a smash between two HGVS in Ayrshire[2] locked down a busy road at rush hour.

The A737 is closed in both directions at Manrahaead roundabout, Beith, after the collision around 7.40am this morning.

Cops revealed that the smash involved two lorries, but no serious injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, a lorry fire on the M74[3] was causing major delays this morning.

The vehicle last night burst out in flames on the northbound carriageway near junction 14 at Crawford, Lanarkshire,

Fire crews have tackled the blaze but the burnt out vehicle is still blocking the road, which remains closed.
