Police close road as cyclist suffers ‘severe injuries’ in lorry crash

A cyclist has reportedly suffered ‘severe injuries’ after being involved in a collision with a truck.

Police and paramedics descended on Crewe’s[1] Wistaston Road this afternoon where officers subsequently taped off the stretch.

Cheshire Police[2] say that cops remain at the scene of the collision, close to the junction with Edleston Road, as an investigation gets underway.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[3].

CheshireLive has reported[4] ‘heavy traffic’ in the town following the incident.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 1.34pm today police were called to a collision on Wistaston Road, Crewe involving a cyclist and a lorry.

“The male cyclist is believed to have suffered serious injuries and has been taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

“Officers remain at the scene to establish the circumstances of the collision and the road remains cordoned off.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance said: “We received a 999 call at 1.33pm reporting a road traffic collision between a lorry and a cyclist.

“An ambulance and an air ambulance went to the scene, and the cyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital road with severe injuries.”
