Police ID driver killed when truck crashes into home, bursts into flames

New Jersey State Police have identified the driver killed Sunday when the truck he was driving ran off the road and crashed into the deck of a home in Hunterdon County.

Michael Shorter, 33, of Atlanta, Georgia, was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving left the road about 2 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads 519 and 619 in Milford, according to Sgt. First-Class Lawrence Peele of the State Police. The truck hit a guardrail and utility pole before crashing into the deck and a tree next to the home, Peele said on Monday.

Shorter died at the scene. The intersection was closed for about seven hours. The cause of the crash remained under investigation early Monday, Peele said.
