Oregon State Police and medics responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian just after 1 a.m. near milepost 267 by Gervais, state police officials said in a release.  Investigators said the pedestrian, Jeri Sherrod, 63, of Salem was standing in the northbound lanes of the interstate when they were struck by the driver of a Peterbilt semi-truck.  Sherrod died at the scene.

State police said dispatch centers had received numerous calls from motorists regarding a person in the northbound lanes before the collision. Northbound I-5 was closed for about five hours, officials said.
