Daimler, Traton and Volvo plan charge points for trucks across Europe
European truck and bus manufacturers Daimler Truck, VW subsidiary Traton and Volvo announced plans on Monday to erect 1,700 charge points across Europe for their electric vehicles by 2027. The companies are to set up a joint venture based in Amsterdam next year, investing 500 million euros (590 million dollars), they announced from their headquarters in Stuttgart and Munich in Germany and Gothenburg in Sweden. “It is the joint aim of Europe’s truck manufacturers to achieve climate neutrality by 2050,” Daimler Truck chief executive Martin Daum said.
“However, it is vital that building up the right infrastructure goes hand in hand with putting CO2-neutral trucks on the road.”
The high-performance charge points using electricity generated from renewable resources are to be erected along motorways, at logistics centres and at unloading points.
