Kenworth electric truck coming to Canada after Camionnage order
Camionnage CP has placed the “first order” in Canada for a Kenworth T680E battery-electric truck, according to the transport, storage, distribution and fulfillment company. Camionnage is planning to use its new battery electric vehicle for drayage operations to transport goods from the Port of Montreal to warehouses in the area. “Camionnage CP is committed to reducing our emissions and creating a more sustainable future for generations to come,” said Camionnage CP co-owner, Martin Moisan in a press release about the news. “We’re proud to be an early adopter of the Kenworth T680E and look forward to operating battery-electric vehicles that will help cut our carbon footprint.”
Added Mike Parent, general manager of selling dealer Kenworth Montreal, “This is an important moment in Quebec as we move toward battery electric vehicles in the trucking industry.”
Kenworth launched its first Class 8 zero-emissions T680E in Fall 2020. The vehicles are designed for pickups and deliveries and can be fully charged in just over three hours, using a CCS1 DC fast charger with a maximum rate of 120 kWh. Kenworth partnered up with Meritor, a supplier of drivetrains, mobility, braking aftermarket solutions to help build the electric T680E, which has a top speed of 70mph and a range of up to 150 miles.
The truck maker also offers two other electric models: K270E and K370E. “Kenworth is leading the way in green initiatives and the T680E definitely will be a game-changer in the trucking industry,” says general manager and PACCAR vice president Kevin Baney. “The new Kenworth T680E provides our customers with a true, zero-emissions solution that will help to achieve their own green program objectives.”
For Camionnage’s part, their new electric truck is just the natural progression of the company’s vision. “Knowing full well the impact trucks have on the planet on a daily basis, we have already signed contracts and put down deposits for electric trucks to add to our fleet,” reads the company’s website. “We aren’t a company that just says we’re going green, we are taking actual steps to do prove it.
The future of our planet requires immediate action, and our industry needs to lead and make good on this promise.”
It has not been announced when Camionnage’s Kenworth electric truck will be delivered or put into operation.
