Eileen McVea Obituary (1958

Eileen (Schmid) McVea
July 25, 1958 – May 15, 2021
Seattle, Washington – Eileen Leslie (Schmid) McVea passed away May 15, 2021, in Seattle, Washington. She was born July 25, 1958, in La Grange, Illinois, to Loren and Carol Schmid. At four months old, she had a memorable experience when she traveled west to Washington State in a dresser drawer securely fastened in the back seat of the car.
Eileen grew up in Washington State and graduated from Hanford High School in Richland Washington as a Valedictorian in 1976.

While in high school, she was selected by the People-to-People High School Ambassador Program as one of 18 Tri-Citian students to tour Europe for 35 days. The tour started in Washington D.C. where they met their congressmen and toured historical sites of the capital. They then flew to Amsterdam to start the European tour that included five-day visits with families in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

She was also selected to serve as Senate Page for the 44th Regular Session of the Washington State Legislature in 1975 for two weeks.
She went on to graduate Cum Laude from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington, in 1980, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After being accepted with Honor by University of Washington, she graduated in 1983 with a Masters of Business Administration Degree. Part of her education was spent as a student in an exchange program with University of Vienna in Austria during 1978/1979.

The exchange program started at the Gothe Institute in Gottingen, Germany, where they were immersed in German for two months with students from all over the world. While in the exchange program she met some very good friends in the program as well as those in Austria and they became inseparable and traveled together.
Two years after returning from Vienna and after graduation, Eileen and a special friend whom she met in the exchange program went back to Europe for a month. During that trip, they revisited a number of friends they had met in Austria and also traveled through Spain.
Eileen had various jobs that included working at Big Toys, Penske Truck Rental, Safeco Insurance, and Summers Anthony Sears Lawyers.

She enjoyed seeing new places and learning new things. She was married to Victor T. McVea, Sr, from 1987 – 1993.

Victor died in 2006.
Some of Eileen’s life-long highlights were cruising with her family and extensive travel with friends. Most of her travel with her friends occurred during short and long vacations while in Europe with the exchange program. Her travels with friends took her through Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Italy, Greece, and train rides that took her into East Germany, just to name a few.

She was able to cruise down the Rhine River and hop on the Orient Express for a trip between Paris and Vienna. On the latter trip, they showered in the Paris train station, saw the main attractions in Paris, and took another overnight train back to Vienna by way of northern Italy. Her friends noted that Eileen was fun to travel with because she was always ready for adventure.

Eileen’s recent activities included piano playing, flower gardening, solving crossword puzzles, and encouraging humming birds.
Eileen is survived by her parents Loren and Carol Schmid, siblings Joanne (Bernie) Woehle and Donald (Melissa) Schmid, nieces and nephews, and close friends Robert Jones, Linda Lagergren, and Jeanette Silva.

We all loved and miss Eileen very much, but are grateful to know that she is in a good place now, and can experience many new adventures.
