• Five other Marines who were in the vehicle were uninjured

At least two Marines have been killed and seven others are critically injured after a military truck crashed in North Carolina on Wednesday. 

The crash took place around 1pm at the intersection of US 17 and Highway 210 between Verona and Holly Ridge, according to WECT. 

The truck with the 19 Marines was making a right turn onto US 17 before they lost control and overturned. They were then thrown from the vehicle.  

Sergeant Devin Rich with the Highway Patrol said that the speed the vehicle was going at the time was undetermined ‘but we do know it was a little too fast for the right turn.’ 

A medical helicopter was called to the scene to pick up those who were injured. 

Five other Marines who were in the vehicle were not injured.

The military truck crashed at the intersection of US 17 and Highway 210 between Verona and Holly Ridge at around 1pm on Wednesday 

The soldiers had been assigned to the 2nd Marines Logistics Group which is based at Camp Lejeune.   

‘We are aware of a vehicle rollover in Jacksonville, North Carolina, involving service members with 2nd MLG,’ they tweeted.  

‘We are working closely with @camp_lejeune and Onslow County officials to gather details regarding this incident. We will release more information as it becomes available.’ 

They later tweeted: ‘We can confirm multiple casualties as a result of this incident.’

The county has since reported that multiple rescue units have arrived at the scene with Camp Lejeune that fire and emergency services have arrived.

Ambulances from surrounding Pender and Jones counties were also at the scene.
