Cyclist dies on A22 Maresfield by-pass crash – Uckfield News

A cyclist has died after hitting a stationary lorry on the A22 by-pass this morning (July 1).

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision near Maresfield at 9.34am.

The cyclist, a 70-year-old, man died at the scene after hitting the lorry which had broken down on the road, a police statement said.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

Lengthy police investigations at the scene closed the road.

Sergeant Dan Eaton, from Sussex Police, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the incident and would like to hear from anyone who have dashcam footage of it who can help our investigation.”

The cyclist, a 70-year-old man, died following the collisions on the A22 Maresfield Bypass, Uckfield at 9.34am.

The lorry driver was uninjured in the crash.

The road is currently closed in both directions for investigation and vehicle recovery work.

A cyclist has died after he hit a stationary lorry on a road in Uckfield on Thursday morning (July 1st).

The 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on the A22 Maresfield bypass at 9.34am.

The lorry had broken down on the road at the time of the collision.

Its driver was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision involving a cyclist and a lorry on the A22 Maresfield Bypass, Uckfield.

‘Avoid the area’ – section of A22 closed after crash between lorry and cyclist

A SECTION of the A22 in Maresfield has been closed after a collision understood to be between a bike and a lorry.

Police were called to the collision between Batts Bridge roundabout and Blackdown roundabout.

The road was closed from 10.30am as emergency services attended the scene.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area while services deal with the incident.

Writing on Twitter, a Sussex Police spokesman said: “Batts Bridge roundabout closed as of 10:30am and Blackdown roundabout road closed between the two.

“The A22 is currently closed between the two roundabouts due to road accident, for now, please avoid the area.”

According to the AA traffic report, traffic is coping well.

A spokesman said: “Road closed due to an accident between a lorry and a cyclist on the A22, both ways between A26 (Black Down roundabout) and Batts Bridge Roundabout.

“Traffic is coping well.”
